I'm pretty sure that you can only use one external
floppy on a Mac. There is indeed a daisy chaining port
on Apple 3.5" drives (and UniDisk 3.5" drives which
need to be modified to work on Macs). However, these
same drives were designed for Apple II computers. On
an Apple II, it is possible to daisy chain two floppy
drives (with the exception of the IIc and IIc+, none
of the Apple IIs had built in floppy drives). Since
the majority of Apple IIs didn't use hard drives, this
was necessary for anyone who wanted extra storage. You
most commonly find daisy-chained 3.5" drives on a
IIGS.

To my knowledge the only Mac that can use three floppy
drives is the SE, which can have two internal and one
external.

If anyone has had different success on a 512K let me
know. I would test this tomorrow (when I will be
reunited with my Macs for a week before one more two
week vacation) but I don't have an HD20.
