Craig, all I can tell you is that historically, the warp and finished bands 
are simply wrapped around the end posts.  I can not give you any specifics as 
to how they did it, alas.  I do not think that paper or anything else was 
used as the threads would have held each other, but then, who knows?  I 
suggest you try it and see what works.  We'd all like to hear what happens!
