I find that intriguing. It seems so obvious to modern minds to put
writing on everything: I wonder why the rune-writers didn't? Might it be
because runes were mainly used for record-keeping, and hence were only
placed on relatively permanent materials such as stone and wood? Or is
it something more subtle?
