Diane,

If you turn a tablet two turns forward, you have
basically turned it upside down. The side that was on
the top, now is on the bottom. If you turn a tablet
two turns backward, the same thing happens, but the
opposite end rotates through the front position, and
shows its threads. It still ends up upside down. So
at the end of two picks, both packs of tablets should
be in the same "upside down" position, and thus ready
to switch tablets from pack to pack. Does that make
sense? You can only switch tablets from one pack to
the other when they are in the same position. The
shuttle shows up on the same side of the band every
other turn, which also makes it a useful indicator.

Each pack travels two forward and two backward, in
order to make the threads of a single color come up on
the top. The background pack is moving B-B-F-F while
the pattern pack is moving F-F-B-B. When you switch
tablets from one pack to another, they go through an
entire rotation to synch with the new pack. If a
tablet was moving B-B-F-F, it will move
B-B-F-F*F-F-B-B, with the switch from the one packet
to the other occurring at the *.

If you think it would be helpful to call and "weave
through" this on the phone, let me know and I'll send
you my number privately.
