Like Diane, I have been teaching myself double-faced tw. I've been working with it for the last month or so. I began my work by doing the practice band(s) in Otfried Staudigel's book, but was really flummoxed by the windmill motif--I just couldn't get it right. Here's what helped: I stopped trying to follow charted designs and started working on geometric designs of my own, making them up as I went along. These were not fancy designs, just checkerboards and straight and diagonal lines. This forced me to look at the position of the colors on the cards and to move them from pack to pack according to when & where I wanted each color to appear. I did a couple of practice bands this way and then went back to try some charted designs again. This time, I had no trouble with the charted designs--they flowed easily once I had forced myself to understand where each color was going and what would happen to it depending on which pack I placed it in.

And a little advertising here: Linda will be giving a 2-day DFTW workshop in the Washington, DC, area, April 5 & 6. Email me privately for more info. We will be working with alphabets.
