Yes I carry several cards (Smartmedia in my case) each of which take in excess or 300 pictures. My 8 years olds camera uses Compact flash which one card takes 500. The resolution you take your pictures at also ffects the number the higher resolution the fewer photos per card. I always take at high resolution.
