Before you get all excited... (too late, maybe):

If you look at the pack from the right, it's

weaver A D
           B C

but if you look at the pack from the left, it's

D A weaver
C B

Voila! Clockwise!

(and yes, I said that in my original email!)

I think most commercial cards are labeled clockwise, aren't they?
I don't use them, and don't actually label my cards. The ABCD are
positional, not absolute. I tend to sit to the right of my loom,
so that's how I think about it by default. I'm just careful to
specify, same as for S and Z.

My mental logic goes thus:

If you start with the A in the top hole closest to you,
then if you turn the pack forwards 4 times,
A crosses the top first (and so shows on the face of the band)
B crosses the top second
C crosses the top third
D crosses the top fourth

so the colors show in the band in the order A B C D
and if you draw your threading diagrams

D
C
B
A

with the grid and the colors filled in, it matches what the band would
look like if you wove 4 picks forward.

That gives you a really easy way to check if your threading matches
your diagram, as well as making more sense to me than anything else
I've ever seen.

This scheme isn't original, I don't think, but also doesn't seem to
match exactly the way anyone else explains it. I've been using it
as long as I've been tablet weaving, because it works, it makes
sense to me, and it's easy to teach students because the threading
diagram matches the band directly.

I'm not sure I've seen your write-up on this, Carolyn, but I can't
imagine it actually coming out too different from what I just said.
