Rob,
Great suggestions. I especially like the elastic idea. The last time I taught kids to card weave, one boy brought a bag of beads and proceeded to add them to his weft without my help. He knew exactly what he wanted to do. (position them on the edge of his band.) Kids are amazing!

<So I think the future is in friendship bracelets and belts to start, and
then we'll probably start seeing them on the fashion runway again.>

I agree AND for what its worth, how do you setup friendship bracelet warps for the kids?

Depends on the kids - real keeners (or those not on their first piece) can warp up longer segments to do several bracelets together, for others, keep the warp short so as not to be too daunting

and how do they secure them to their wrists? I have been working out various ways  and it seems that twisting the unused warp ends, although somewhat bulky is the best way to hold them to the childs wrist.

A couple of ideas:
- get some clasps, and sew the ends of the band over to attach the clasps (a metal ring on one side and a tie thread is a cheaper option)

- start the bands for them in a loop end

- narrow the band down to a couple of cards by cutting the edge cards and weaving their warp in as weft - you can also do this at the start, but it's tricky keeping the tension on the warps you are adding in.
This cuts down the bulk when you attach the band.

- sew a piece of elastic to the back of the band so the bracelet can be taken off / adjusted easily.

- see what the kids come up with - they are pretty creative, and might come up with a completely different option
