I too have my doubts about the age if the band in LA. They do not say nothing about the finding place/situation so I second Eckhards opinion about the age. And the pattern seems to be of later date, as I see it. But it could be interesting to ask the museum of more facts- unfortunately my written english does not work sufficiently for that kind of enquiry - I guess. Irene
Michael <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> skrev: Sponsored by TWIST - Tablet Weavers International Studies & Techniques Have y'all seen this piece? The captioning labels it tablet weaving, from circa the 9th century. --------------------------------- ATTENTION! This a note from your list mom to mention that all mail with the link regarding the LA County museum lcontains a three letter string that gets it bounced from almost anywhere. The extension refers to an executable file which is a significant way that some viruses, worms, etc. are entered into your Windows computers. So, alas, that link will forever trigger bounces. The string is fyf with each letter moved one back. Got it? Like executable.... Maybe somebody at the LA County Museum could alter the name of their executable that ends with "fyf" once retarded ------------------------------------ My guess would be that all the tablets in the body of the band are one color, turned in one direction until the twist builds up, and then reversed. It's hard to see if there are turn reversals, because of the resolution of the photo, but there could be one about the center of the band, where the decorations are sewed on the sides. I think there are five colors of brocade. There appear to be three gold colors, although the lightest could be silver and the others shades of metal gold. The pink and blue threads also look like brocade. You can see the brocade threads "turn the corner" just inside the border, especially toward the top of the photo. It almost looks like that border is attached; the threads are so much thicker than the rest of the band. If it's woven in one with the rest, it seems like it'd need a special turning pattern to keep it from throwing off the beat. I love the design, particularly the valentine hearts! I flipped through Nancy's book looking for similar patterns, but didn't see anything like this. Thoughts? Anybody ordered photos from the LACMA?
