About the history of tablet weawing, I can contribute by telling, the the
oldest tabletwowen peace here from Denmark is about 3.500 years old - namely
from the grave of the maid from Egtved, Judland, Denmark.
It is the waistband from her shirt, that is tabletwowen.

I also know, that in the Balticum there have been a unbroken "line" of
tabletweaving from at least 900-1000 years a. Chr. and up til now, -
informations from my book about baltic bands (also shown at my web-page)
There have been quiete a discussion about some ancient egyptian bands, but
there are certently some "gravepaintings" (I am sorry, but I do not know how to
translate it right) that shows that the art also in that part of the world was
known very early.
