I tried to summarise all that was then known about the early history of
tablet weaving, when I wrote my book, "Techniques Of Tablet Weaving",
some time before 1982. You will find eight pages near the beginning of
the book devoted to this... Earliest weaving, earliest tablets, earliest
written evidence..... Fairly detailed.
One has to remember that warp-twined fabrics can be made by other
methods than tablet weaving; so finding the structure itself is not
proof; though finding four-strand warp-twining begins to be good
evidence. To date its persistence into more recent times seems harder.
