That means it's flawed, not subjective. So give it a few sources, and they
will more or less cancel each others flaws.

Recording crime rate is not an exact science, so of course it can never be
perfect. But perfect is the enemy of good enough.

How is it subjective if you take data from the local police?


Very.  Portland Police, for example, have a policy of not taking reports if
nobody gets sent to the hospital or the crime isn't a felony in an effort
to keep the city's crime stats artificially low.
