Graeme and Owen

Originally I didn't know that Adventure Way was actually a tourist route. Not something I usually map or modify, but have recently done a spate of highway to local name changes when traversing towns.

However

Yes the guideline cover it more or less. Seems to be missing out on some parts of the network tag though. I have (Owen) seen dual signs (out west) with both the tourist and standard route markings. I'd suggest that "AW" etc be adopted as ref=* rather than appending to network=* This will also make it kind of align with the other tourist drive naming.

The driving experience PDF actually covers both the SSTR's and Tourist Drives.

Adventure, Matilda and Savannah Ways also traverse states, even though it seems a Qld source thing. This may mess up the utilisation of the OSM network name. eg network=AU:QLD:SSTR would end up in SA, NT and WA. (noting the guideline item on this) Whatever the case, Adventure Way might route/route relation code as;
ref=AW
network=AU:QLD:SSTR:Adventure
    or AU:SSTR:Adventure - which would then get confusing for comparing with other Qld only SSTR tags.

I also wonder at the use of a way alt_name rather than a relation when it comes to local town naming of a highway. It might be nice to have a guideline item on how to put it all together, with a few more (complex) examples. ie where to use the route/network tags on ways and/or relations both in and out of towns. eg Eulo's main street;
Way
- name=Leo Street
- alt_name=Bulloo Developmental Road
- ref=49
- network=AU:QLD:S
Route/road relation 1
- ref=49
- network=AU:QLD:S
Route/road relation 2
- name=Adventure Way
- ref=AW
- network=AU:QLD:SSTR:Adventure
Is this all complete?

I'll just keep it in mind at this point. I only use ID so don't have the tools (or cognition) to make sweeping changes/adds.

Tnxs for your remarks

Bob

Isn't this all covered under the Guidelines already? https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Australian_Tagging_Guidelines/Roads#Routes

    Hi Bob

    That would be more of less consistent with the State Strategic
    Tourism Route that runs through our town. There is an official
    network of these "drive tourism" routes that criss crosses
    Queensland, and almost all the Queensland A roads have tourist
    route alternates. There is a map of them in this PDF from TMR

https://www.tmr.qld.gov.au/~/media/communityandenvironment/touristservicesigns/driving-experiences.pdf
    They also all have route designators, e.g. AW for adventure way,
    although adding that might be of limited benefit is it is not
    signposted as AW. Some however are signposted very well.
    Notionally the Adventure Way runs west from Brisbane, along with
    the Warrego Way to Dalby, but west of Brisbane the Warrego Higway
    is mostly signposted with the alternate name Darren Lockyer Way.
    If you were going to be consistent with our local route (ACW) -
    well signposted around here - you would add AU:QLD:SSTR:AW

    Cheers
