Dear Jens

I haven't been in Holguín, so I am not sure about the actual size of the Carretera Central there, but it looks at least 6 m wide (google). I agree with you about the segment Moa-Baracoa, which is really in bad shape. Regarding the highway between Holguin and Gradalavaca it also connects the municipalities of Rafael Freire (Santa Lucía) and Banes. Traffic is scarce in many Cuban roads, even in the Autopista Nacional, so I believe it is not a proper criterion.

Hi Alexis,

I am writing from Cuba were I live. I have noticed also
incongruence about road classification in Cuba, In part it can be
attributed to the poor manteinance situation in many roads.
The manteinance is not the problem.
I'm wondering about narrow roads (5m) that are secondary or even
primary.

Nevertheless there is an official classification of roads in Cuba
(National, Provincial, municipal level) that could be a guidance
For instance:

National level:

- Carretera Central (N-1): This is a 7 m wide road
Isn't it only 5m west of Holguin?

- Autopista Nacional (A-1): Built as a motorway in the 80's but
not completely finished,
There are already finished bridges, that are not connected to the
road. They look like builded in the 80th too.

Between Santa Clara and Sancti Spiritus only one side is working
in most places.
This should be tagged as primary road IMHO.

Most of crossings are bridges, but in rural
settings it has also level crossings
This should be tagged as trunk.

New roads built for accessing Touristic hubs could be regarded
also as primary (From Ciego de Avila-Morón to Cayo Coco; From
Holguín to Guardalavaca,
I just de-classified the last one to tertiarry, because it doesn't
connect cities and there's only a bit traffic before and after those
few planes per week arrive and depart at Holguin.

- Holguín-Mayarí-Moa-Baracoa
Isn't the road between Moa and Baracoa impassable for vehicles due to
damages?

Rgds, Jens
