Is this a real issue? I've done quite a bit of walking within 50 miles or so of Cambridge, stopping whatever pub lies on the route for lunch, and I can't recall a single time we've not been made welcome. One pub did thank us for leaving our muddy boots outside, but said they wouldn't have said anything if we hadn't!
