I believe it automates an email which is sent to the OpenStreetMap user's mailbox (and to their registered email address as part of the OSM inbox functionality)
I detected a collective "meh" in response to my previous email so I made a start on a fork of the repo, ready for a pull request when and if anyone expresses an opinion (if you aren't familiar with these terms, don't worry, it's not that important). The things that I'm not sure of: - We have to select a region by uploading a geojson file. As the containing chapter is "OpenStreetMap UK" the UK would seem an obvious region to select. However, there's already a Scotland region defined, and an Ireland region covering Northern Ireland. I'm not sure what the impact is of overlapping regions (multiple emails?). For the moment I created an "England" region by simplifying the England relation from OSM. I think the email we'd generate would be more appropriate for the area the OSM UK covers, ie the whole UK? Or at least England and Wales, as they aren't covered by a region yet. You can browse the existing regions in Github, here: https://github.com/milh0use/osm-welcome-tool/tree/2.x/assets/regions/europe and the England region I created here: https://github.com/milh0use/osm-welcome-tool/blob/milh0use/add_england_region/assets/regions/europe/england.geojson Github even has a nice geojson viewer built in, so you don't have to interpret a sequence of latlongs in your head! - We would need to agree the best text. I've created a draft based on the OpenStreetMap Ireland message, with some text copied and pasted from the OpenStreetMap UK website. You can see the text here: https://github.com/milh0use/osm-welcome-tool/blob/milh0use/add_england_region/templates/messages/england/en/default.md You can also see the email sent to users who create nodes/ways/relations in the ireland region here: https://github.com/milh0use/osm-welcome-tool/blob/milh0use/add_england_region/templates/messages/ireland/en/default.md I don't see a text for Scotland - maybe a default text is sent to regions without their own text? Let me know what you think?
