I can imagine someone making some clever scripts and then manually verifying it where there are doubts as a kind of personal project of the week or something. A couple of months ago Marcus Wolschon has been reporting on the general talk list on his progress in adding the TMC road IDs to OSM in some parts of Germany or Austria. TMC is some kind of radio broadcast current traffic amount estimates, some satnavs can use it to avoid traffic jams automatically.
