For trail surveys and other GPS recording on Android I've been very happy with Google's "My Tracks" app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.maps.mytracks&hl=en
It's pretty easy to use just hit "record", then allows the addition of markers & photos while recording -- though I have only used markers myself. After one is done recording, the track can be exported as a GPX file and then sent to a computer via USB/Bluetooth/Dropbox or any other transfer method enabled on your phone. I've also tried doing surveys with OsmAnd, but found that the recording was much less stable and would often get interrupted and need to be restarted -- quite frustrating.
