Actually I think the license thing is a false rumor because I am using the
beta of the new media player and it has no new DRM stuff at all. Infact it
supports a lot of new formats. Although still not ogg

I think it will own in many aspects but it will suck in the locking down of
things.  For example,any music content you play needs a microsoft licence. 
If it doesn't have that, the computer locks down the soundcard, according to
early reports.
