No if you are running defender then you are running spy ware and virus protection. If you are using windows 8.x. you don't want to run other salutions along side defender because this will cause you nothing but trouble and defender will not let you do that any way. If you are running an earlier version of windows then you should get security essentials because defender on these versions only does spy ware. That is why I said defender is not on earlier versions speaking of the windows 8 defender. Hth
