Same thing happened to me about 6 weeks ago. Apparently Dell has been
shipping this type of keyboard for a couple of years; there are complaints
in the Dell community forum about it. For some people the computer was left
in the numlock On state like mine was, and for other customers it was left
in the numlock Off state and they wanted it on. I'm not sure whether this
can be fixed in the BIOS. My solution was to abandon that keyboard and use
an older USB keyboard I already had. I call this the numb lock problem!

Subject: speaking of Dell computers...
My brother got a new computer with a keyboard that has a number pad. At
the place where the numlock key should be, his keyboard has a delete key
and he only has numeric function of the keypad, Does anyone on this list
have any ideas as to whether there is a numlock key somewhere? Will his
only option for using mouse keys be to use the laptop layout? Thank
you. I am sorry, but this is the only information I have about his
system except that it is running Windows 7.
