I never heard of driver incompatability with window eyes, either. My
brother used to tell me you had to have a certain keyboard with a certain
computer, and couldn't just go buy a replacement, but that was my brother's
ancient information, and he told me that about fifteen years ago. At the

ask someone their if they would be interested in do a screen share with you
on your computer. or you might want to call the Microsoft support help
desk. They can also do what's called a screen sharing session.

I always just purchassed a computer, plugged it and it ran.
I did have to buy 2 or 3 keyboards to get my new Dell to work with
WindowEyes - no num lock on one and no applications key on the other but
then I learned of the shift-f10 key, got one with a num lock key and was a

Perhaps WindowEyes should produce a annual list of keyboards that work with
their product if this is the case.
I don't know from drivers so wouldn't even know how to figure out which
drivers would work with WindowEyes and which ones wouldn't work and wouldn't
know what to ask some usually ill informed desk clerk at some major
manufacture to find out if their drivers would work with WindowEyes and they
wouldn't have a clue anyway.
When I buy a product like WindowEyes I have to assume they handle the
interface to hardware on which their product is most likely to be used.
And, if there are any gotch-yas WindowEyes should have a list of
alternatives for their clients - not hope their clients know enough about
hardware and drivers to pick some particular combination from the general
descriptions provided on most hardware vendors sites.
In fact, buying from a large manufacturer and trying to find out if their
keyboards include certain keys is tough enough but asking some desk clerk if
a driver will work with some really obscure piece of software like
WindowEyes and they wont have a clue and neither will their tech staff - I
have delt with them often enough to know this is the case 99 percent of the
time for questions of that type.
Exactly how do you determine which dell drivers or other major vendor
drivers will work properly with WindowEyes, is there a list someplace?
This also applies to the audio drivers and now, I guess, the keyboard
drivers so how do you do it?
I want to plug in my computer, install the product and have it work and that
is what any product needs to do or the product is doomed to go extinct.

When buying a keyboard this is something you have had to check for years.
Does it use a function key. That changes the function of the function keys
to media commands or to launch other programs. The location of the arrow
keys no there is no standard for this. Does the keyboard use intellasense
drivers that can perform things like auto correction and short cuts. These
can quite often cause issues for screen reader. Of course the subject at
hand does it have a numlock aplacations key etc. this is nothing new we
have had to check these things for years. Not sure why all the fuss now
because nothing has really changed here.

That's very true. It makes another thing that we have to add to the list of
what we check when we buy a computer: whether the keyboard has the right

Seems like everything is getting smaller, shorter, Thinner, and often
missing something, that once was part of the item. In this case, someone
has decided to lower the cost of manufacturing, by removing a Key or two, or
three.
This time it is the Num Lock key, and it is probably true, that few ever use
it.
Just proving, you can't really assume much of anything these days.
After a while, a person just gets tired of always having to double and
triple check everything.

At the place where the numlock key should be, his keyboard has a delete
key and he only has numeric function of the keypad, Does anyone on this
list have any ideas as to whether there is a numlock key somewhere?
Will his only option for using mouse keys be to use the laptop layout?
