Hi: That happened to me a couple of times and like you I was lucky and found them in the Recycle bin. I don't know, it happened while I was having problems with WindowEyes so I have no idea if it is a WindowEyes related thing or not. It wasn't the OS cleaning up unused icons since one of them was what I use for the MyComputer icon on the desktop and I use that often. Disk Cleanup is something you have to request to be run and I don't think it does anything with icons on the Desktop. I think there is a utility that cleans up unused icons but in the past I had to run that manually as well - havent used it in a few years so not sure how that works today. But it was indeed concerning that my MyComputer icon was suddenly gone! I think it happened twice while I was doing some debugging concerning WindowEyes and the use of the mouse to track dynamic content. Now it hasn't happened since then but it happened twice when I was mucking about with the WindowEyes settings, trying out various web pages and one of my own desktop applications so something was going on then that caused the problem. It never happened before that timeframe nor after. Rick USA

This thing started, I believe, yesterday. All of a sudden, my shortcuts just keep disappearing from my desktop. I can some times go to the recycle bin and find them there, but not always. I know that in XP there was a Windows function/service or something called disk cleanup or something that would go round picking things off, and I didn't like it then either. Is there anything I can do to keep this from happening? I would really rather do it myself, thank you very much.
