In the end: purchasing is a commitment to the on-going development and
availability of Window-eyes. The free offer with Office actually meanhs
that people are sponging off the rest of us. If everyone decided not to
purchase, there would be no on-going development, no customer support, no
dedicated Window-eyes engineers etc etc - no Window-Eyes for Office. Some
of us are very generous!

My other dislike of the for office scheme is that those of us who have paid
for our Window-Eyes don't get much more than those us who have not paid for
it. The current pricing for version 9.2, and the option of purchasing an
SMA, particularly under the upgrade scenario, is very affordable if people
budget for it.

There is no doubt that in the perfet world, full access to Windows should be
part of the operating system - but it isn't, and there are advantages in
people being able to choose from a range of products how we wish to access
Windows. The objective of making Window-eyes more available to more people
through the office linkage is commendable, but I am not certain how it
secures the future of Window-Eyes.

I delayed purchasing 9.2 (which woul dhave been by way of a new SMA) for
various reasons not immediately relevant to the discussion, but I feel
something of a renewed confidence in Window-eyes and AI Squared, and so I've
invested in the upgrade and SMA. So far - glad I have.

Vaughan.

Exactly. You also don't have to pay for Eloquence, which while it isn't my
favorite synthesizer in terms of the actual speech is still just about the
fastest synthe I've ever used in terms of responsiveness, although the
Vocalizer voices are pretty good in that department as well.

Focus your powers and prepare for buttle.

Hi. Actually you would need to purchase a license for Dectalk.
Actually you've already made the large investment by buying WE in the first
place. For me the cost of an SMA is worth it for the tech support and the
delivery of cds for upgrades that use an SMA count. You also can get your
licensed upgrade quickly. Ok, the servers got hammered at first but you've
had WE for a while and probably have had quite a few upgrades while you've
had your SMA. I would rather have an agreement with GW/AI for my screen
reader. MS has nothing to do with it this way.
The free option is really fantastic for people who can't make the initial
investment in their screen reader but in my opinion its value decreases for
those of us who are working with the licensed full copy.
