Richard, Unfortunately, there are variations in the Dropbox interface that were dependent upon the version. For a while, I avoided updating Dropbox because new versions were worse. Mostly, though, I feel I am best off with the current version and that might be worth a look.
Having said that, though, there were versions of Dropbox that did not respond to Windows keystrokes when in the system tray, only responding to mouse clicks. You may have one of those versions. Routing your mouse to the Dropbox icon and then left clicking might open up the menu for you. Also, using the Window-Eyes interface to the system tray, INSERT S, might be easier. Since I don't have one of the versions of Dropbox that act this way, I can't tell you for certain whether you should left click or right click, but maybe this will get you started. I've also gone to the list of programs in the start menu and tried to find preferences there, but without success. Are you aware of any other way to get to preferences? Thanks. -----Original Message----- From: Talk [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Steve Jacobson via Talk Sent: Thursday, March 17, 2016 2:35 PM To: 'Window-Eyes Discussion List' Subject: RE: Problem with reading MS Word 2007 documents from dropbox If you go to dropbox preferences on your computer, not on their website, there is an option to "Show Dropbox Badge." You may also hear the word "Down" indicating that you press the DOWN ARROW to change the option. Change this preference to "Never." For me, that eliminated all of the problems with Word and Excel files in my Dropbox folder. I get to preferences by finding Dropbox in the system tray, pressing SPACE which brings up a menu, and then DOWN ARROW until I get to Preferences.
