If you have read tooltips set to off, then obviously that is not the problem. I wonder if you have your desktop set so you only use down arrows and all the shortcuts are in a single line? If so, you could switch to listview and you would not get the date/time. That would be under the view pulldown on the ribbon under folder options, if memory serves.
