Hi Michael, The instructions I provided for turning off tooltip verbosity will be honored globally. That is, no matter what program, dialog or area in Windows you are in, if a tooltip is displayed, it will no longer be spoken by Window-Eyes. The pop up messages you receive when ejecting a USB drive are different than tool tips and are classified as notifications. So, they should continue to be announced automatically even after turning off tooltip verbosity in Window-Eyes. I just tested this in Windows 10 with Window-Eyes 9.5.1 to verify notifications are still announced after turning off tool tip verbosity and they were. As net bat stated in a previous message, there is a configuration option in Windows (File/Windows Explorer) that will prevent the pop-up descriptions for folder and desktop items from being displayed. Turning this option off might be a better solution than turning off tool tip verbosity if there are other programs you use where the tool tips present critical information. Here are the steps to turn this option off in File Explorer: 1. Open File Explorer (Windows+E) 2. Activate the Options pull down button in the View tab (Alt-V, Y) 3. Choose "Change folder and search options" (Press Enter or O) 4. Select the View tab in the Folder Options dialog (Shift-Tab, then Right Arrow 5. Uncheck the advanced settings option "Show pop-up description for folder and desktop items" (Tab into Advanced Settings tree view, press S until you find it, press Spacebar) 6. Press Enter to activate OK button and close dialog Best, Marc

Hi Marc its Michael hear if you turn off the tool tips does that afect any other info that We reads. Such as if you want to eject a USB drive from the computer. And will you still get the messages pop up when programs are alerting you to things. Cheers Michael. -----Original Message----- From: Marc Solomon via Talk Sent: Tuesday, August 9, 2016 10:39 PM To: Klaus Vielhauer ; Window-Eyes Discussion List Subject: RE: Verbosity ... Klaus, I am going to go out on a limb and guess that one of the places you hear this information is when navigating among the icons on your Desktop. If this is the case, Window-Eyes is reading the text in the pop up tooltips that are displayed on the screen for the selected item. This is the default behavior of Window-Eyes and I have worked with others who prefer to turn this setting off to cut down on the verbosity. Here are the steps to turn this option off: 1. Open Window-Eyes Control panel (Control-Backslash) 2. Make sure Show Advanced Options in checked in the Help menu (Alt-H, V) 3. In the Settings tree, open General then Other (press G, Right Arrow, press O) 4. Navigate to the options area with F6 5. Move focus to the Speak Tooltips Global combo box using Tab 6. Select Off (1 of 3) in the combo box using the Arrow keys 7. Activate the Save Settings button (Tab to the button and press Spacebar) Best, Marc -----Original Message----- From: Talk [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Klaus Vielhauer via Talk Sent: Tuesday, August 9, 2016 3:33 AM To: list window-eys <[email protected]> Subject: Verbosity ... Hello, Windoweyes speaks the selected ikon – as it should be – but in addition it speaks file location and date of last change which is disturbing. How do I get this switched off?
