The VFO group has ask the dealers to stop selling Window-Eyes. -----Original Message----- From: brice Mijares via Talk Sent: Saturday, December 17, 2016 6:35 PM To: [email protected] ; Window-Eyes Discussion List Subject: Re: Window-Eyes is Dead! I been a window eyes user since the 90's and earlier this week I sent support a question and still haven't heard back from them. What does this tell you? Well I seem to have addressed this issue just a few days ago, as far as I know Window-Eyes is going no where in the near or intermediate future. I really cannot say as much for the long run. I called about obtaining a new LTO and they are still selling them and plan to for the future as far as that goes. So Please do not start this BS about Window-Eyes being dead again. That, I can say I would GREATLY APPRECIATE!. <KF8LT><Jim Wohlgamuth> On 17-Dec-16 20:27, Dave via Talk wrote:Veronica, for me it is more of a personal thing. JAWS does a very goodjob at reading screens, and in some cases it does a better job than Window Eyes. But, JAWS in my experience has very poor Support for its program, andthey always want Money Money Money for their latest and greatest upgrade, and sometimes their latest upgrade is more like an Update, andcx isn't all that much better than what you had bfore you spend an extra $200. Thenthey put a Copywrite protection on their program so an owner has troubleinstalling on more than one or two Systems. And JAWS always seemed to be just a bit Buggy, and I hate it when Iloose speech, and I cannot tell if it was Window Eyes or something elsein my system that caused the system lock up. I am Joking, but I do understand that Blind people are all Thieves andwe would steal the Copper Penny's covering our dear Grandmother's eyes,as she awaits her funeral, if we only could find her without someone taking our hand and leading us up to the old girl. Of course JAWS selling their program for over $1000 has nothing to do with the desperation of many who are Blind. Here is something to think about-I am going to go out to the Computer Store tonight, and Purchase a Quad Core 3.4 I5 System with 16 GB of RAM, and a 750 GB Hard Drive, for $250.We have a store here called Re-PC that takes in used systems, tests themand puts them up for sale.So I can buy a used system for $250, and I think the Pro edition of JAWSis over $1200, maybe someone here can correct this figure. When the Screen Reader costs four or almost five times as much as the computer it will run upon, guess I have a problem with that. And I know JAWS is a Company that is to make a profit for the owners, and making a healthy profit is something I have no problem with a Company doing. But there is the Greed factor that tends to raise its uglyhead, and that is when a Company will charge what they believe the Market will bare. And with most program sales getting paid for by our Government, the same government that will pay $600 for a Toilet Seat, why not charge Uncle SAM $1200 for a screen Reader program? After all, Uncle SAM is good for it, even though few people who are Blind can afford it, with most living on minimum wage jobs, or some level of Social Security. JAWS as a program, does many things right, and even better than Window Eyes, in some cases. I just never liked their method of doing business, or how they interacted with their customers.I stayed with GW Micro largely because they were a great group of people to work and deal with when you needed to do so. From the days of DOS tojust before the purchasing of GW Micro by A I Squared I felt theircustomer service and program support was very very good. And there weretimes when the guys could not fix what ever my issue was at the time. But, they didn't just ignore my situation, or mock me for having a problem.I almost always found Window Eyes to be a very reliable program, and sowhen I did have those times when my system would freeze or lock up, I was prone to think it was Internet Exploder, or some other program, including Windows Itself to be the culprit before I considered the Screen Reader. That is the very high level of reliability I came to expect from GW Micro, because that is what they produced for years.Today, I do not have the same degree of Faith in those who run GW Micro. And I do not know if this is only because some of the old staff are now gone, and those replacing them are not quite as good, or if what I senseis the hand of the Parent Company influencing how those who still workat GW Micro do their jobs. And now that A I Squared has been swallowedby the Parent Company of JAWS, there is even a greater distance theTop decision makers have from the every day user of Window Eyes. So it takes longer and longer to fix problems, or to make alterations to Window Eyes etc. Personally, I need a powerful Screen Reader. I use NVDA on occasion, but it is not powerful enough to do everything I need from a Screen Reader. There may come a Day when I must buy my own copy of JAWS. I won't like it, but if they are the only Game in town, then what choice do I have? I will reluctantly make my purchase.
