You went from a 1st Edition phone 6600 to a 3rd Edition phone N86. There is
no compareson between the two. The 1st Edition phones whir good for there
time and I wouldn't expect them to work with later things on the market
including PC Suite. The old 1st Edition phones used PC Suite 1.x or
something like that! <smile> The best thing I liked about the old 1st
Edition phones is you could install Software on the phone and do it all
through the PC without having to touch the phone.
The N86 you have to do it on the phone to finish the install. The good thing
about this is no one can install software remotely on your phone without you
knowing about it being you have to do it on the phone.

You are right that I am a relative new comer to Talks and my knowledge
in
this area is very limited compared to other areas of technology.
This was mainly due to the problems of connectivity I had with my old
Nokia
6600.
This phone only had basic file transfer possible via blue tooth and it
proved impossible to sync or connect with PC suite.
I even employed a computer engineer for 2 hours but he was completely
stumped by this phone. He demonstrated how it was possible to connect and
sync a number of other phones but not this 6600. it appeared from Google
searches that this was a known problem and you needed an old service pack
1
XP machine to really connect the 6600 without problem.
I responded by using the phone with a very limited feature set.
So I am only now with my new N86 moving into a more general usage of talks
and a phone.
The 6600 is going to my sister who does not need a expanded feature set.

been using Talks for about 2 years and have been following when new
releases/updates occur. You would have known from Talks 4 about Quick
Office and we were all pleased that Talks was then making the reading of
Word documents available at least!!! At that time it was said in the
release notes that Talks would not read from within the Quick Office or
maybe I stand corrected but I knew it was something I was aware of at that
time. Then there was the untimely death of one of the Talks developers
back
last Easter or May time, I think it was April. A very sad loss to the
Talks
community but the good work has continued thankfully. May I suggest that
you consider Ped or Bread for your text files.

I am a bit annoyed with Nuance.
I think the following statement on the Nuance talks page is misleading.
Especially as it was after reading this text that I decided to purchase
Quick Office.

There is no warning anywhere that Talks will only partly support the
reading
of menus in quick Office and will fail to allow file navigation within
quick
office. If for example you are trying to achieve the reading of a text
file
in quick office this seems impossible with talks present support.
I think this is a misleading advert and I will raise this in the first
place
with sight and sound who sold the talks software to me.

Well David you are partly there. No Talks will not access your files
using
speech via Quick Office. Put the files in a folder on the Mass Memory
and
then go to them there and open them from there. For example. I have a
folder called Law and in that folder I have my notes which I transferred
from the computer which are written in Word. I then go to that folder

file manager and locate a file and open it. Do remember that you have

to go to options and edit in order to read through the document.

Having failed in an attempt to successfully install, or use, 4 text
editors
including T Edit and B edit I today purchased Quick Office
This installed fine but I am experiencing major difficulties in opening
files.
If I select options open I can navigate down to the phone's mass memory
but
from there on talks does not read any file paths.
By experimenting I find that by pushing right Talks will announce AD
Films
which is the first folder on the phone's mass memory . However I cannot
get
Talks to announce the other folders as I move down.
Continuing to push right will simply launch one of the films in this
folder
without announcing the name of the file.
Leaving quick office and Using file manager , I can navigate fine to the
text files I need to open. The problem is that opening them here does
not
open then into quick office.
Is there a way of making quick office accessible with Talks or is there
a
way of forcing file Manager to open txt files in Quick Office?
I tried a utility called file Associate but again it was not compatible
with
the N86.
