Having owned both the KM184 and KM84 myself, there is a BIG difference
between them.  I know a lot of engineers who use the 84 on acoustic
instruments.  Many of those same don't like the 184 at all.  Ask the
engineer you mentioned about his opinions, maybe he will let you try
them at his studio??

If you are looking for a near KM84 sound, check out the Chameleon Labs

KM84.
