I just might play the more linear, notey breaks if I could, but since I can't I
decided not to like them.
I play what I call, box style.  I use two boxes to play out of, what I call the
Bluegrass Box for melody/chord breaks and then a Doublestop Box for everything
else.  I always keep the melody out front, keep the right hand moving and
change the attack and volume constantly.  These are all the cheap tricks of a
player who has worked too many double shifts and never had the hours and hours
it takes to be a "good" player.  To the un-intiated my playing sounds like
Monroe style, I've even be accused to copying Tater (a great compliment to me)
I've always been well accepted in jams and have even had players who are better
than me ask me for lessons.  They are always amazed at how easy it is and even
more amazed that they can't do it.  My guess is that they are just too smart.
Turns out, I don't suffer from that problem.

How does your playing (Monroe style) go over in a jam type atmosphere.
