Well I am glad this came up! I flirted with the fiddle the past couple years and though the sound of a cat throwing up is not there anymore the smoothness is not there either... which has led me to stay more true to the mandolin and get that figured out abit more.
I actually have my fiddle up for sale. Really sweet fiddle from the middle 1800's from eastern europe with a great old time finish. The "label" says ca. 1695 but the 1st chair violinist in the houston symphony who owned it before me says mid 1800's from his resarch on the instrument. The bow is real sweet great abalone inlays on the frog and button(?, the thing you turn on the frog) and silver wire wrapped. I am looking for 2200 for the set if anyone is interested my computer is having difficulties uploading pictures so I will have them up as soon as they are able to be uploaded... I know I will regret selling this but one needs better mandolins apparently.
