I highly recommend Johns DVD. Very well done. I break playing an instrument into 1) playing and 2) practicing. If you want fun, do #1. If you want to get better, do much more of #2. I like to record and listen to myself in jams, alone playing, with play alongs (my own, Band in a Box, Abersold, etc) over a few weeks. I go back and listen to all of them, taking careful notes. I try to find what is the weakest part of my playing.
