I think it's fairly common to be surprised how you sound on tape- and most people don't like it. I read a quote years ago from Vince Gill saying something to the effect that part of becoming a great singer is becoming comfortable with the sound of your own voice. I'm not there- I doubt I ever will be. Some people seem to really like my voice, others don't seem too impressed. I'm in the latter group...
