Just recently I took a risk and sang 'cluck old hen' with band backup at a local open mic night. Someone recorded it so I got to hear it. I can say, my voice quality is living room average. It was nice to know I can sing in time and tune, I did remember all the lyrics, its a tongue twister to sing, but that went ok too. I thought my voice quality was ...fair at best but what really got me was the accent...that old Michigan twang just can't be beat out of a person..I suppose.
So then ..a spate of voice lessons...to find what what I might could do about it. Did get a couple of worthwhile tips, fact is the voice is like another instrument me thinks. Still it was fun. I really liked being alone at the mic, feeling the warmth of the audience, the feeling of doing it. I figure some folks always sound better in a harmony part thing rather than a solo. One thing I really don't like, no matter the sound of the voice...is ..if the words being sung can't be heard clearly...making a mush sound...that to me seems the worst thing, why bother to sing if nobody can understand what the story is?? I suppose there are exceptions to that too.. My voice is very average and unremarkable. I thought it was better than it is and that it was distinctive - wrong. So now I know. I like to listen to distinctive voices that hang around in the auditory memory... linda On Dec 3, 12:15 pm, sgarrity <[email protected]> wrote: > I can't sing. Not a lick and I've tried.
