Hello All, if all that you are trying to do is determine whether java is installed, would the following work on windows?

It seems to work on my machine, but I didn't test it too thoroughly. If we have time we can get the install wizard (like in 2.0) to also add a link to this .exe file to the Start menu.. but that's another program to play with.
