I only use Hamster as my local NNTP server - I use MDaemon as local
mailserver since 3 years. Advantage of MDaemon is its ability to
directly connect to the addressee's SMTP server - I only connect to my
(own) remote SMTP server only in cases the other server isn't availabel
within an adjustable time. I never connect to the SMTP server of my ISP.
