After a long hiatus from TB!, I was really excited about the latest
release and the promise of functional IMAP support. Things seemed to be
working OK on my end (a little quirky, but no deal breakers), but today
I was banned from my ISPs mail server because TB! was causing the server
to slow to a crawl. They've reinstated my account, but only as long as I
promise not to use TB! for my e-mail. So I'm back to Thunderbird (which
works without a hitch, but doesn't have many of the features I've come
to love in TB!), and likely won't try TB! again until I read some
glowing reviews of flawless IMAP performance in future versions. Here
are some details about the problem in case it helps the development team:
-I have 2 e-mail accounts on the same server (both IMAP), and a lot of
mail stored there (~600 MB).
-Each account was set to use 3 connections, with 1 reserved for
retrieving new messages.
-Most of my folders were set to "Synchronize all messages" so that I
would still be able to access my mail if I didn't have internet access.
-When the problem occurred, I was using my computer at work where we
have a ridiculously fast 'net connection.
Here's part of the message the ISP's support guy sent me:
[server] was having issues, which unfortunately were traced back to your
account. Here's the deal:
[server] was having lots of load placed on it. This essentially meant
that it was having issues with serving pages, services not responding,
and the like.
In doing some testing, we noticed that both the cpu and memory were not
being maxed out - however, the disk itself was. We were able to trace
it back to imapd running - here's a load average list from this morning
as effected by imapd:
