That's why I'm suggesting to make it switchable, not to abolish it.
Then you could call it a feature instead of a defect.

As an example, I like to edit quotes in my replies. Take a text like
this:

I now place the cursor on the "t" of "two" and press enter. Same thing
after "two", I get:

Now I delete the first and the third line and end up with

which I wanted to quote.

If I try this with the Windows Editor, the AB> in front of the new
lines is not inserted.

... things like that. The Windows Editor is simply not my idea of an
email-editor.
