TBTECH definitely allows discussions as these.

I use a combination of both. I have MDaemon setup to deliver directly
to the official MX and if it fails then send the message via a
smarthost. I don't have problems with mail being delivered. If I only
do direct deliveries, I tend to get quite a few failed deliveries
because some MX records fail to be resolved.
