 regarding that >From bug:

this is something that some mail transport agents (probably list
softwares, too) do on purpose. In old Unix mailbox formats a line
beginning with "From " was recognized as a new message delimiter. Thus
it may happen that messages that had "From" somewhere in the middle of
the body and at the beginning of a line where split up. To circumvent
this the something had to be put in front of such a "From", altering
the message.
