Duh! I just realised I had mis-read the problem...
The answer is much clearer...
Use ftp.ritlabs.com as the hostname rather than
ftp://ftp.ritlabs.com/
The ftp:// part at the beginning is a directive that tells your
web-browser to use the FTP protocol rather than the HTTP protocol
which most of the web uses.
Sorry for that mis-direction...
