SMN> FTP = File Transfer Protocol - typically, you would use FTP

Mary,

In practice, ftp is a program, just as TB is. TB is really
"thebat.exe", and the ftp program that is packaged with
windows is "ftp.exe". If you open a DOS window and type
"ftp", you will run the program (not to worry, it won't
actually do anything). You will then get an ftp prompt
and you can exit the program by typing "quit". Or you can
type "ftp -h" to get some help information.

The program is used to connect to another computer and
transfer files to or from your computer, hence the name of
the protocol.
