Er, actually I've never had anything bad happen at all when doing

Very. Very strange indeed....
Consider uninstalling your mouse software and see if that cures it? I
haven't heard anyone yelling about this yet and you're not using a beta,
so something just isn't right.
After that, try reinstalling Windows. After that (!) back up the
important stuff and reformat. Hopefully it won't come to that
though...
