I  think  it's  even  good for PGP that two business partners can have
their    keys   signed   by  someone  they  both  trust.  That  whole
certificate authority thing has too much of a centralized organization to
me.

I heard that wasn't even a one-time fine, but something you had to pay
regularly?  And is that the same cost for personal and commercial use?

Anyway,  if  there's  an  advantage  to S/MIME, it might be that I can
trust  someone's  key  if  it's signed by a known authority. With PGP,
there's a lot of hassle to get my own key signed by some folks who are
widely-known,  and  there still might be someone who doesn't trust it,
anyway.  Personally,  I  don't  usually  exchange  encrypted mail with
people  I  don't  know,  but  if  I did, I'd be grateful for a central
authority.  A  notary  (is  that  the  word  for that kind of lawyer?)
wouldn't be the same, either.
