You mean the setting in folder properties? I don't think that would
move purged messages to the trash folder. Messages would appear in
the trash folder only when:
1. they're moved (or copied) to it manually or by a filter; or
2. they're deleted manually (by hitting the Del key).
BTW, by filter I mean those you set up in the Sorting Office. I
wouldn't call the "keep msgs in base for xx days" option auto
"filtering".

Ok, I assume you use this one to move those msgs you've replied to
trash, right? (Why don't you do it with a auto replied msgs filter?)
I'm afraid you're not giving us your whole story, for so far I can
hardly make sense your setup, let alone figuring out what's wrong.
Let me requote your original post:

How are those "moved" to trash? (You said by the "keep for xx days"
setting, but that doesn't make sense.)

Does this happen to *all* msgs marked to answer? Are those 2nd
copies (in trash folder) have the same "answer this one" color? When
would they show up in the trash folder? (Right after you use the
hotkey to color code those msgs in the Inbox?) Are those msgs marked
to answer parked?
