How it handles it for outgoing TABs is, to my mind, perfect and in
keeping with the TB "pre-formatted" ethos. It gets around any
discrepancy between the way an alien MUA may wish to interpret a real
TAB character.

Yes. IMHO When *displaying* or *replying*, TB should be converting the
received TAB character. But for storage and for export / save, TB
should be retaining the actual received text which, in such cases,
includes a TAB character.
