The same thing just happened again, sending a message with 2 fairly small attachments. The first 2 times I tried, the line was cut off (log message "connection finished - 0 of 1 messages sent"), but the third time the message was sent properly. I spoke to my ISP immediately afterwards, and he says it must be a problem with the program which is sending a command to shut down the connection.
