You can easily see what Melissa meant. Just go to the menu "View -> View
threads by... -> References" or hit ALT+1 and then look for your message
to see where it ended up.

BTW, there is also a paragraph in the welcome message of this list which
explains why it isn't a good idea to start a new topic with a reply to
an existing one.
