Yes, you certainly can. I'd always use PGP/GnuPG if I could help it. The thing with S/MIME is that you can't really verify a persons identity or that all messages are really coming from the same sender as easily as with PGP. With PGP you can easily associate messages with a particular sender without necessarily knowing their true identity. In a lot of instances (my list messages as a moderator) being a good example, this is all that's needed. With S/MIME, I don't see how you can achieve this as a freemail member. You have to get full identity certification through an authorized notary seeing you face to face with proper identification or through sending the necessary documents to Thawte with the required payment. A question for the S/MIME users. Do you have to first import a copy of the senders S/MIME key in your address book before you can test the validity of any of the senders S/MIME signed messages? I think this is the case with TB! but is this the case with OE and other S/MIME compliant clients? You can use S/MIME and PGP interchangeably but where ever the opportunity presents itself, I think you should go for PGP. - -- -=Allie C Martin=- List Moderator | TB! v1.60c | Windows XP Pro PGP/GPG Public Key: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?Subject=2B0717E2 _________________________________________________________________ -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iD8DBQE8zEZBV8nrYCsHF+IRAp2nAKDfsW3EhC0TKnZfc3kYOVXQbY46agCfWIFh LqCWe61iHhKhjlCqLrFter0= =jBZO -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- ________________________________________________________ Current Ver: 1.60c FAQ : http://faq.thebat.dutaint.com Unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Archives : http://tbudl.thebat.dutaint.com Moderators : mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] TBTech List: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]
